Hikes around Sakurae
I like walking. Its the best way to travel. At human speed you get to see things that would be missed if moving faster. Walking alone is best of all. With the silence there is more chance of noticing things and encountering wildlife. Sakurae has hundreds of trails heading into the mountains. Once used to get from place to place, they are now rarely used except for collecting mushrooms and other wild foods. There are also hundreds of kilometres of "farm" roads. Once they were trails connecting outlying farms with the villages, and even though they may now be paved, they are used rarely. As well there are forest roads, built into the forest for commercial lumbering. Many are closed to vehicles and those that arent are rarely used. I have an insatiable desire to know the place I live. I want to know where each road or trail goes to, and what can be found along the way. Here are photo logs of my recent hikes.
